The Mississippi State Bulldogs are the American football team representing Mississippi State University. Scott Field, the Bulldog's home field, is the second-oldest venue in all of NCAA Division I FBS. The white and maroon of their uniforms are distinctive. The Bulldogs' mascot is called "Bully." While Zach Arnelt is the head coach, Zac Selmon is the team's athletic director.
John Cohen, the athletic director of Mississippi State, said on February 27, 2017, that he would extend Coach Mullen's contract by four more years to February 2021. After an 8-4 regular season, on November 26, 2017, Dan Mullen resigned as head coach at Mississippi State to take over as head coach at the University of Florida. Through the 2021 season, Mississippi State's bowl record stands at 15-11 after 26 appearances.
Mississippi State was a West Division of the SEC member from 1992 to 2023. During that time, they faced every West Division opponent annually and numerous East Division opponents. The Bulldogs' schedule against other SEC members will look different in 2024 due to the SEC's decision to expand the conference to 16 teams and eliminate its two divisions.
