Midget wrestling is a type of professional wrestling that features little people. Its heyday was in the 1950s and 1960s when wrestlers like Little Beaver, Lord Littlebrook, and Sky Low Low toured North America, and Sky Low Low was the first World Midget Champion of the National Wrestling Alliance. More wrestlers, notably foreign wrestlers like Japan's Little Tokyo, became well-known in North America over the next few decades.
From the 1950s until the 1970s, the attraction was immensely popular in wrestling promotions. Midget wrestlers and tag teams and women's midget wrestling were featured on many cards. Midget matches were routinely featured on television broadcasts for promotions in various cities.
After the WWF's WrestleMania III, midget wrestling began to fade. Midget divisions were still featured in promotions after that, but their popularity was waning. Midget wrestlers were largely seen in comedic matches and segments by the mid-1990s rather than true competitive wrestling matches. This was not the case in Mexico, where wrestler Mascarita Sagrada competed in major Mexican promotions such as AAA and the Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre.
Midget divisions were once again a part of major wrestling promotions in the United States by the mid-2000s, when performers like WWE's Hornswoggle were fighting for and winning championships designed for average-size male wrestlers.
