The Miami RedHawks football program (formerly known as the Miami Redskins) competes in NCAA Division I FBS college football on behalf of Miami University in Ohio. Having a record of 684–455–44 and making 12 bowl game appearances, the RedHawks have stayed always competitive since their founding. Beginning in 1888 with their first-ever collegiate-level football squad, RedHawks has a long football legacy.
Since then, the RedHawks have had a 7-5 bowl record, 22 conference titles, and 8 division crowns. The team's most remarkable playoff run happened between 1973 and 1975 when the RedHawks won bowl games. Miami University is known for producing several outstanding head coaches, earning the moniker "Cradle of Coaches."
Among the legendary players on the list are Sean McVay, Paul Brown, Jim Tressel, and John Harbaugh, who span several generations of football. Pro Football Hall of Famers Sid Gillman and Weeb Ewbank and NFL players Brandon Brooks of the Eagles and Ben Roethlisberger of the Steelers are other prominent Miami (OH) football graduates.
