The Memphis Tigers football team competes in college football for the University of Memphis in the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision. The Tigers participate as an all-sports member of the American Athletic Conference. Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium hosts home matches for them. Ryan Silverfield is the head coach of the club. The Memphis Tigers have seen seventeen bowl games and won more than 500 games since their first season in 1912.
The squad has earned many conference titles in the American Athletic Conference, Missouri Valley Conference, and, most recently, the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association. Apart from the conference titles, the Tigers have won over 450 events, including over 10 NCAA college bowl games. Though chances to face these teams are rare owing to current league alignments, the team's primary opponents are Arkansas State, Louisville, Ole Miss, and Southern Miss.
Memphis is one of nine NCAA Division I FBS teams in the nation with that distinction. Beginning in 2014, they earned bowl eligibility by winning at least six of 12 regular season games and have consequently been invited to a bowl game every year without interruption.
