St. Mark's (West Gorton) was the nickname given to the club when it was first established in 1880. In 1887, the club was renamed the Ardwick Association Football Club. In 1894, the club changed its name to Manchester City.
Between the years 1960 and 1970, Manchester City was victorious in the Football League, the League Cup, the European Cup Winners Cup, and the FA Cup. The team struggled in the 1990s and plummeted to the third division of English football until being promoted back to the Premier League in 2002.
The Abu Dhabi United Group's acquisition of Manchester City Football Club in 2008 made it possible for the club to invest in players and management of the highest caliber. Manchester City won many titles after the change in ownership, and the club also won the FA Community Shield, the EFL Cup, the Premier League, and the FA Cup in 2019.
