Major League Cricket Information
The Major League Cricket (MLC), sometimes known as Cognizant Major League Cricket for sponsorship purposes, is a professional Twenty20 cricket competition based in the U.S. Under a single-entity approach, six teams representing significant U.S. cities started play on July 13, 2023. The competition is run by American Cricket Enterprises (ACE) and approved by USA Cricket.
The league's official endorsement by the ICC in April 2023 removed a major barrier to its July start. On July 13, 2023, play started. Beginning in Grand Prairie Stadium in Grand Prairie, Texas, and Church Street Park in Morrisville, North Carolina, the first season spanned three weeks and ended on July 30, 2023. Comprising 27 franchise-based clubs, the development league for MLC, Minor League Cricket (MiLC), finished its first season in 2021.
Cognizant was announced as the league's title sponsor for the 2024 season in March 2024. The ICC awarded the tournament official List A status in May 2024, officially recognizing the event as a "T20 league" and including tournament playing records as official format statistics. MLC chief executive Vijay Srinivasan later underlined goals to grow the event to ten teams and boost match attendance.
