In 1998, King of the Cage (KOTC), an MMA promotion, was founded and based in Southern California. Terry Trebilcock founded KOTC, and its headquarters are based in Rancho Cucamonga, California. It mostly features amateur and up and coming MMA stars along with some of the former mainstream combat fighters. KOTC is known for promoting a majority of its events at casinos scattered all across the US. It also promotes events in Canada, Japan, and Australia. The events developed by the King of The Cage are often broadcasted on most national pay-per-view platforms. Dean Stone is known as the Cage Announcer for KOTC.
The weight division system of KOTC follows the Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts. But it's 185-pound division is named Light Middleweight (instead of Middleweight), 35-pound division Flyweight (instead of Bantamweight), 25-pound division Light Flyweight (instead of Flyweight), and 145-pound division Bantamweight (instead of Featherweight). A 165-pound division (Light Welterweight), a 230-pound division (Cruiserweight), and a 195-pound division (Middleweight) are the only three weight classes not following the Unified Rules.
