John Deere Classic Information
The John Deere Classic is a professional golf event on the PGA Tour. It occurs every July at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois, a Quad Cities suburb, and is often held the week preceding the Open Championship. In 1971, the event was held as a "satellite event" on the PGA Tour, known as the Quad Cities Open. 1972 became an official tour event and was contested in early fall.
Due to the sponsor's exemptions granted to adolescent Michelle Wie in 2005 and 2006, the event received extra media attention. In 2013, at 19 years and nineteen days, Jordan Spieth became the first teenager to win a PGA Tour event since the tournament's inception in 1931.
For players who aren't already exempt, the John Deere Classic is their last chance to qualify for The Open through the Open Qualifying Series and finish in the top five. Since 2008, the John Deere Classic has sponsored a charter aircraft from the Quad Cities to Britain every Sunday night to help bring players to the Open Championship the following week. The trip takes off on Sunday night and lands in the morning.
