Impact Wrestling, officially the trading name of Anthem Wrestling Exhibitions LLC (sometimes stylized as IMPACT! Wrestling), is an American professional wrestling promotion headquartered in Nashville, a subsidiary of Anthem Sports & Entertainment.
Total Nonstop Action (NWA-TNA) was a professional wrestling company founded in 2002 by brothers Jeff and Jerry Jarrett. It was not a member of the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA), although it had close ties to the organization. The company changed its name to Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) in 2004, although it maintained its arrangement with the NWA to use the NWA World Heavyweight and Tag Team championships. When the contract expired in 2007, TNA decided to start its belts for heavyweights and tag teams.
Anthem bought the promotion at the start of 2017 and renamed it after its flagship weekly television series in March of that year. From its founding, the organization has been considered the second-largest in the United States behind WWE. Some believed Impact had dropped behind long-time rival Ring of Honor in 2017. They cited the cancellation of their U.S. television contract with Spike in 2014 and financial and personnel problems as causes for this downturn. Many believe Impact has rebounded as of late due to its continued international TV distribution and its parent company's purchase of AXS TV, which now airs Impact shows.
