The Illinois State Redbirds football program is Illinois State University's intercollegiate American football team based in Illinois. Members of the Missouri Valley Football Conference, the team contests in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). The first football squad of the school competed in 1887. The squad hosts home games at the 13,391-capacity Hancock Stadium. Brock Spack serves as their coach.
Additionally, Illinois State appeared in the Corn Bowl in 1950. Among the few former Redbirds who have gone on to play in the NFL are James O'Shaughnessy of the Kansas City Chiefs and Davontae Harris of the Cincinnati Bengals. Eastern Illinois is the squad's most well-known rival team.
The two teams contest the Mid-America Classic every year. The game is widely recognized as one of the oldest rivalries in Illinois.
