Idaho Vandals Football Information
The Idaho Vandals represent the University of Idaho in collegiate football. The team plays its home matches at the Kibbie Dome, a stadium at the university in Moscow, Idaho. Idaho competes in the FCS as a member of the Big Sky Conference. After Paul Petrino's tenure as head coach (2013-2021), Jason Eck took over in 2022.
Since its inception in 1893, the Idaho football program has amassed a 460-614-26 (.430) record over 130 years. In their history, they have appeared in and won the Humanitarian/Famous Idaho Potato Bowl three times (1998, 2009, and 2016) in Boise.
For 18 years (1978-1995), the Idaho football team competed in Division I-AA (FCS), reaching the postseason 11 times and the national semifinals two times (1988, 1993).
The university's president, Chuck Staben, decided to rejoin the Big Sky Conference and the Football Championship Subdivision in 2018. After the 2017 football season, the Sun Belt Conference announced on March 1 that Idaho and New Mexico State will no longer be associate members. In a historic first, Idaho has willingly moved to the FCS from the FBS.
