Hyundai Monterey Sportscar Championship Information
The Monterey Sports Car Championship is an American sports car race at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca organized by the International Motor Sports Association. The race started in 1950 for the first time as a race on the roads of Pebble Beach, California. The race was also added to the new SCCA National Sports Car Championship in 1951. The race moved to Laguna Seca Raceway as soon as it was built in 1957.
In 1957, after the discontinuing of the National Championship, The Monterey Sports Car Championship fell dormant. It was later revived by the SCCA’s new United States Road Racing Championship in 1963. In 1969, the race once again fell dormant but once again revived with the IMSA GT Championship in 1973.
From 1999 - 2013, the event was a part of the American Le Mans Series. That is until the series merged with the Rolex Sports Car Series in 2014 to form the United SportsCar Championship. The race has undergone several name changes over the years, such as IMSA Monterey Grand Prix, Pebble Beach Road Races, Monterey Triple Crown, Monterey Sports Car Championships, American Le Mans Monterey, and America’s Tire 250.
