The Harvard Crimson football team competes in NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision on behalf of Harvard University (formerly Division I-AA). Harvard's football program, which football's program started in 1873, is one of the oldest in the world. The Crimson have won 13 national titles and have 20 members of the Collegiate Football Hall of Fame, including William H. Lewis, the first African-American college football player, Huntington "Tack" Hardwick, Barry Wood, Percy Haughton, and Eddie Mahan.
Harvard is the NCAA Division I football's eighth-winningest team. Harvard's home games are held at Harvard Stadium in Boston, Massachusetts. Between 1890 and 1919, the Harvard Crimson was one of the most dominant forces in intercollegiate football, capturing nine national titles. Harvard has won 12 NCAA-designated major selectors national championships (1874, 1875, 1890, 1898, 1899, 1901, 1908, 1910, 1912, 1913, 1919, 1920). Harvard has won seven national championships in college football.
Harvard has won 17 conference titles, eight of which were outright and nine of which were shared, during its time in the Ivy League, which began in 1956. They are behind Dartmouth and Penn in overall Ivy League football titles.
