Hartford Wolf Pack Information
The Hartford Wolf Pack play professional ice hockey and are based in Hartford, Connecticut. The XL Center is home to these American Hockey League (AHL) teams. After a string of moves, the team changed its name to the Hartford Wolf Pack in 1997. Not only is it the longest-running minor league hockey organization in North America, but it is also one of the oldest professional hockey franchises overall.
After being rechristened the Connecticut Whale in October 2010 to pay homage to the defunct NHL Hartford Whalers, the team returned to its original moniker following the 2012–13 American Hockey League season. One of Connecticut's four professional hockey clubs, the Wolf Pack, is a top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Rangers.
In 1926, the Providence Reds—one of the five original members of the Canadian-American Hockey League—were established in Providence, Rhode Island. Over time, they evolved into the Wolf Pack.
When the International Hockey League in the Midwest and the Colonial Amateur Hockey League in the Northeast united in 1936 to establish what is now known as the International-American Hockey League, the "International" was later deleted from the name in 1940.
The team's naming and logo featured submarine themes; thus, that's where the name came from. When the New England Sea Wolves of the Arena Football League folded, the Wolf Pack adopted Torpedo, the mascot of the former team; Torpedo has since been retired.
