Grand Valley State Lakers football represents Grand Valley State University (GVSU) in NCAA Division II. Currently participating in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, the club once belonged to the now-defective Midwest Intercollegiate Football Conference. Since 2001, the Lakers football team has entered six NCAA Division II national final games and won four championships.
With an overall winning percentage of .747 (439–148–3) since the football program began in 1970, the squad ranks first in NCAA D2 and among the top regardless of division. The Lakers' all-time home record is 219–46–1. Lubbers Stadium has seen Grand Valley host home-field events since 1973.
In recent years, several upgrades and extensions have been made to the stadium to handle the overflow of consistently exceeding the 10,444-seat capacity. Following Matt Mitchell's recent appointment by Wisconsin throughout the summer, Scott Wooster was elevated to Head Coach in 2023. Starting with a No. 2 vs. No. 3 game at Colorado Mines, GVSU's schedule looked challenging for the season.
