Grand Rapids Gold Information
The Grand Rapids Gold are a Denver Nuggets affiliate and a professional basketball club from Grand Rapids, Michigan, the US, that plays in the NBA's G League. Van Andel Arena is the home field for the Gold. They debuted in 2006 as the Anaheim Arsenal and changed their name to the Springfield Armor in 2009 when they moved to Springfield, Massachusetts.
In 2006, the franchise debuted in the NBA Development League (NBA D-League) as an expansion team known as the Anaheim Arsenal. The Arsenal was a professional basketball team that played its home games at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California. They were affiliated with the Hawks, Clippers, Magic, and Trail Blazers clubs.
A new association arrangement between the Drive and the Denver Nuggets was announced on April 27, 2021. The Drive unveiled its new name, logo, and color scheme—the Grand Rapids Gold—on July 7 as part of its new affiliation.
The Nuggets run the basketball side of things, while Steve Jbara, president and owner of SSJ Group, oversees the business side and the team's involvement in the community. Jason Terry was officially announced as the new head coach of the Gold on August 19.
On June 2, 2022, the Gold announced that they had inked a five-year contract with Van Andel Arena to replace the DeltaPlex Arena, which was scheduled to close before the 2022-23 season began.
