The men's basketball team from Georgia Tech, known as the Yellow Jackets, competes at the NCAA Division I level. Under Damon Stoudamire's direction, the squad now plays its home games at McCamish Pavilion on the Atlanta campus. Under Bobby Cremins's direction, Georgia Tech won its first ever ACC tournament in 1985 and made its first ever Final Four berth in 1990.

Before joining the Atlantic Coast Conference as its eighth member in 1978 (with games beginning in 1979), Georgia Tech was a charter member of the Metro Conference from 1975 to 1976. This Yellow Jackets team has won four Atlantic Coast Conference tournament titles and been named the conference's top seed twice as of the 2020–21 season. Seven of Georgia Tech's teams have advanced to the Sweet Sixteen, while the school has received seventeen berths in the NCAA tournament as of 2021.

The Yellow Jackets have featured several well-known and gifted athletes. Jarrett Jack was named to the 2005 Basketball Times All-South team, while Dennis Scott was named the ACC Player of the Year and the National Player of the Year in 1990. In the official team media guides, one of the Yellow Jackets' fictional players, George P. Burdell, has won three letters (1956–58). Burdell is an everlasting Tech student.
