Frozen Fury Information
The Los Angeles Kings and the Vegas Golden Knights of the National Hockey League (NHL) have played in Salt Lake City in a preseason ice hockey game known as Frozen Fury every year since 2021. From 1997 through 2016, the Kings and the Colorado Avalanche met in Las Vegas for an earlier version of the series. The Los Angeles Kings played four other teams besides the Colorado Avalanche throughout the season. These four opponents were the Arizona Coyotes, the San Jose Sharks, the New York Rangers, and the Dallas Stars.
The NHL lockout forced the postponement of the 15th annual Frozen Fury, scheduled for September 29, 2012. The New York Rangers returned to the series on September 27-28, 2013, for their first appearance. The league's first outdoor game was the Kings' 5-2 victory over the New York Rangers on September 28, 1991, in front of 14,000 fans on a temporary rink outside Caesars Palace.
Game time temperatures reached 85 degrees Fahrenheit. This was the first outdoor game in what would later become an annual regular season event, the NHL Winter Classic, played on New Year's Day since 2008. These games were held at MGM Grand Garden Arena from 1997 until 2015 and at T-Mobile Arena in 2016.
