Fort Myers Mighty Mussels Information
The Fort Myers Mighty Mussels play in the Florida State League and are the Minnesota Twins' Single-A club. They play their home games in the 7,500-capacity Lee County Sports Complex at Hammond Stadium in Fort Myers, Florida. The stadium opened in 1991. Additionally, the park serves as the Minnesota Twins' practice ground during the spring season.
The Goldklang Group moved the Miracle to Fort Myers in 1992 in anticipation of the advent of the Florida Marlins of Major League Baseball. During that season, the Miracle and the Minnesota Twins worked as co-op teams. The next year, the Miracle officially became an affiliate of the Twins. As it stands, the Player Development Contract is good until 2018.
Before the 2020 season, the team announced in December 2019 that it would rename and become known as the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels. With Major League Baseball's reorganization of Minor League Baseball in 2021, the Mighty Mussels were reclassified to the Low-A Southeast. Following its reclassification as a Single-A circuit in 2022, the Low-A Southeast resumed its previous name—the Florida State League—before the 2021 restructuring.
