Food City 500 Information
To prevent the problems with rain, snow, and sleet that plagued the area in late winter and early spring, Bristol Motor Speedway President & General Manager Jeff Byrd recommended that NASCAR reschedule the spring race to a later Spring date in 2008. Not until 2015 did this happen. Due to weather concerns, the 2015 event was postponed until April. Except for 2016, every race has had to be rescheduled due to rain. In 2017 and 2018, the event was moved to Monday.
After the death of former Speedway President and General Manager Jeff Byrd in October 2010, title sponsor Food City announced that the 2011 Spring race would be renamed the Jeff Byrd 500, presented by Food City in his honor. In 2015, the race was renamed to honor NASCAR on Fox commentator Steve Byrnes and the anti-cancer organization Stand Up To Cancer, with the help of the Entertainment Industry Foundation.
The Food City Dirt Race was renamed after the event transitioned to a dirt course in 2021. Stages 1-2 of the race were originally scheduled to be 75 laps each, with the final stage to be 100; however, after Friday's practice sessions, the stage lengths were changed to 100 for each segment.
