Florida International Panthers Football Information
Florida International University (FIU) is represented in American football by the FIU Panthers football team. The Panthers participate in the East Division of Conference USA (CUSA) and the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) of the NCAA. Mike MacIntyre is the head coach of the Panthers. Along with three postseason bowl trips, FIU developed a Sun Belt Conference co-championship squad in 2010. Pitbull Stadium, with a seating capacity of 20,000, hosts the Panthers' home games.
Originally independent from 2002–2004, FIU's football program later joined the Sun Belt Conference in 2005. Using a final-game victory over Arkansas State, the Panthers claimed the Sun Belt Conference championship in 2010. They also attended their first bowl game that year and defeated Toledo 34-32 in the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl. FIU was also bowl-eligible the next year but lost 20-10 to Marshall in the Beef 'O' Brady's Bowl.
Ahead of the 2017 season, the Panthers signed renowned coach Butch Davis, who guided FIU to the postseason in his first three years. In those games, the Panthers went 1-2, defeating Toledo in the Bahamas Bowl 35-32. Former San Jose State and Colorado head coach Mike MacIntyre, Memphis defensive coordinator, was appointed the program's sixth head coach on December 9, 2021.
