FHSAA Wrestling Championship Information
Florida's high school wrestling champions are crowned in the annual Florida High School Athletic Association Wrestling Championships. The Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) follows the contest rules established by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS). Folkstyle wrestling is another name for what is done at the high school level.
In 1920, 29 high school principals gathered at the University of Florida in Gainesville to form what is now known as the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA). Originally, only public schools were eligible to join, but that changed in 1930 when private and religious schools were also welcomed.
One way to categorize schools is by their student body sizes. Schools with 100 to 600 pupils classified as "rural" as of the 2019-2020 academic year can be found in the smallest attendance listing, 1A. Larger schools with 2,406 to 4,799 students are included in the 8A category.
Wrestlers must place at district and regional levels to advance to the state finals of the FHSAA Wrestling Championship. Sportspeople from Classes 1A–4A skip the District event and head straight to the Regional competition.
