Farmers Insurance Open Information
The Farmers Insurance Open is a PGA Tour professional golf tournament held in San Diego, California, during the "West Coast Swing" in the early season. The first two rounds were held at Chula Vista's San Diego Country Club in 1952, 72 years ago. The 1954 San Diego Open was placed at Rancho Santa Fe Golf Club, the same venue that had held the Crosby Pro-Am before WWII.
The event gained notoriety from 1968 to 1988 when singer-actor Andy Williams hosted it. Stardust Country Club was the moniker Mission Valley adopted in 1962, currently known as Riverwalk Golf Club. Its 1952 inception and continued usage as the San Diego Open title were retained until 1985. With the addition of Wickes for two years and Isuzu for three, title sponsors were introduced in 1981.
The North and South Courses are used in equal measure for the first 36 holes of the competition before the South Course is used for the last 36 holes. Jon Rahm won the 2021 U.S. Open at the South Course, while Tiger Woods won the 2008 tournament in a playoff. Both tournaments were held at the South Course.
