The Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens football team competes in the NCAA Division I FCS as a member of CAA Football, the technically separate football arm of U.D.'s full-time home, the Coastal Athletic Association. The squad presently has Ryan Carty as head coach. They play their home games at Delaware Stadium, which has 18,500 seats, in Newark, Delaware, on Tubby Raymond Field.
Ryan Carty, a former quarterback for Delaware, was hired as head coach on December 10, 2021. Carty was an assistant coach for 11 years at New Hampshire and four years as Sam Houston State's offensive coordinator while working under Keeler. With an announcement in 2023, the program joined the Conference in the U.S. and the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) before the 2025 season.
Conference USA (CUSA) and Delaware State University (Delaware) announced on November 28, 2023, that the Blue Hens began a transition to the Football Bowl Subdivision following the 2023 season and became a member of CUSA in 2025. Due to NCAA transitioning regulations, U.D. participated in CAA Football in 2024 but not in the FCS playoffs.
