The Dayton Flyers men's basketball team participates in NCAA Division I and the Atlantic 10 Conference, representing the University of Dayton. The American Press Top 25 Poll placed Dayton at no. 3 in March of 2020, the highest position the school has had since 1955–56, when it was no. 2. 

With adjusted revenues of more than $16.6 million in 2014 (the highest for non-football conference programs) and a valuation of nearly $84 million (the second highest for non-football conference programs and higher than programs like Florida, Texas, and Michigan), Dayton was ranked No. 23 in the nation in a 2015 study of college basketball team valuations.

The Flyers have never been rated first, however, in the final AP poll of the 2019-2020 season, Dayton did get one first-place vote. Several sources had the Flyers as the top seed in the 2020 NCAA Tournament. However, they were dropped from the season before it even began. Leading the way were three senior guards—Jalen Crutcher, Ibi Watson, and Rodney Chatman—and the team's early success in the fourth season under Anthony Grant, which included victories against Ole Miss and Mississippi State, two of their SEC opponents. After the A10 tournament ended, they were the fourth seed and invited to the 2021 NIT, which was significantly shorter.
