The Ivy League's Dartmouth Big Green football team competes in NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) college football games on behalf of Dartmouth College. The squad has a distinguished history that includes a national championship, holds a record 20 Ivy League Football Championships, and has 11 members who have been inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.
Head coach Bob Blackman guided the 1962 squad to the program's first unbeaten season since the 1925 national championship squad after Dartmouth officially joined the Ivy League in 1956. Donald McKinnon, a 1963 graduate who anchored a solid defense that gave up just six points in its first five games, was another All-American for Blackman.
As a member of the Triangular Football League, Dartmouth fought against institutions like MIT, Amherst, and Williams from 1887 to 1898. The Big Green won eight conference championships throughout that time, except one that they split with MIT in 1888. In more than a century of competition, Dartmouth has won 27 conference titles, including 20 Ivy League titles—the most in league history.
