Cotton Bowl Information
The Cotton Bowl Classic, sometimes called the Cotton Bowl, is an American college football game held yearly in the Dallas–Fort Worth area since January 1, 1937. Before its 2010 relocation to Cowboys Stadium (now in&T Stadium) in neighboring Arlington, the game was played in its namesake stadium in Dallas.
Former sponsors include Mobil (1989–1995) and Southwestern Bell Corporation/SBC Communications/AT&T (1997–2014); however, the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company has been the official sponsor since 2014 under the name Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic.
In the past, the game would feature the Southwest Conference (SWC) winner taking against an invited team from another conference, usually a big independent or the SEC runner-up.
After the SWC's demise in 1996, the game pitted an SEC club against the Big 12 Conference runner-up from 1999 through 2014. The Cotton Bowl Classic has played host to a national semifinal after each of the 2014, 2018, and 2021 college football seasons. It is one of six bowls that make up the College Football Playoff (CFP).
The Field Scovell Trophy is presented to the Cotton Bowl victor. The Ole Miss Rebels (8-4) triumphed against the Texas Tech Red Raiders (11-3) 47-34 in the last Cotton Bowl Classic match played at the Cotton Bowl stadium. Tech quarterback Graham Harrell threw for a record-breaking number of touchdowns in the Cotton Bowl Classic, shattering the previous NCAA mark.
