The normal NCAA Division I men's basketball season concludes with the Conference USA Tournament. The competition will be held at the Ford Center in the Star Stadium in Frisco, Texas, featuring twelve teams in single-elimination brackets. In 1996, Conference USA hosted the first-ever men's basketball tournament.

The championship was played at the FedEx Forum in Memphis, Tennessee, following the reorganization of Conference USA. The competition moved around between the BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and the Don Haskins Center in El Paso, Texas, in the early 2010s. It was originally held at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Still, after the Memphis Tigers moved from Conference USA to the American Athletic Conference, the championship was moved to the Dallas Cowboys' stadium.

1996 Cincinnati defeated Marquette in overtime to claim the first-ever Conference USA Men's Basketball Tournament. So far, the Memphis Tigers have more than five tournament championships, more than any other team in the league.
