A professional soccer club called Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC calls Colorado Springs, Colorado, home. The club has been around since 2014 and now plays in the USL Championship, the lower division of American soccer. Dean Weidner and Martin E. Ragain are the franchise's owners.
The Ragain family runs the franchise. After the Switchbacks and Trittschuh separated in July 2019, Wolde Harris was named the team's temporary head coach. The hiring of Alan Koch as the new head coach of the Switchbacks was announced on September 23. COVID-19 and the subsequent reorganization of the 2020 season, followed by Koch's relocation to Canada, ended his tenure as team president.
The Switchbacks were helped in their transition by the additional technical resources and personnel, such as Brian Crookham, thanks to a stable, limited association between the Colorado Rapids and the club from 2019 to 2021. In 2022, the team had its greatest on-field and off-field start, with five wins before losing, tying a league record.
