CME Group Tour Championship Information
The LPGA Tour's final tournament of the year is the CME Group Tour Championship, contested by professional women golfers. This tournament took place after the LPGA Tour Championship's two-year run in 2009 and 2010. CME Group Titleholders was the name of the event from 2011 to 2013. There will only be 60 spots available in the competition.
The LPGA Tour began its annual Race to the CME Globe points competition in 2014, with the winner receiving a $1 million incentive. The CME Group Tour Championship was the final " Race " event that lasted all season. Before the competition, each player's "Race to the CME Globe" points accumulated throughout the season were "reset" based on their place in the standings. The top 40 finishers in the CME Group Tour Championship were subsequently given "championship points" to add to their "reset points" in the "Race to the CME Globe" competition.
Chicago-based derivatives exchange CME Group is the event's title sponsor. On March 7, 2011, LPGA Commissioner Michael Whan revealed that CME had agreed to a three-year sponsorship deal for the tournament. CME had previously hosted LPGA players in pro-am events.
