Chili Bowl Information

The Chili Bowl Midget Nationals is a midget car competition held in January. It occurs at the Tulsa Expo Center in Tulsa Indoor, Oklahoma, on a 1/4 mile gravel oval track. This event is referred to as the "biggest Midget race of the year" by NASCAR. "The Super Bowl of midget racing" is a common moniker.

Emmett Hahn and Lanny Edwards were the organizers of the first Chili Bowl. A local corporation that funded the inaugural event inspired its name.

In the first-ever tournament in 1987, 52 little people competed for two days. More than 341 vehicles have registered for the 2020 race, and the event now comprises five days of qualifying leading up to the A-main event on Saturday night. Every qualifying night, a quarter of the drivers participate in the event, hoping to make it to the A-main.

Moreover, there are prizes up for grabs at this event. A guaranteed starting slot will be given to the winner of the second-night event of Champions. It includes racers selected by teams that have won the event before, drivers that have won the Chili Bowl in the past, and the current national Midget Driver of the Year.

If the driver who won the Chili Bowl or the Race of Champions the previous year does not qualify, their vehicles will be added as the 25th and 26th cars, respectively. At the ceremony, new members are inducted into the National Midget Auto Racing Hall of Fame.
