Chicago Stars FC Information
The Chicago Red Stars are a professional women's soccer club headquartered in Bridgeview, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. Their participation in the NWSL dates back to 2013, and they were one of the original members of the WPS league. In 2009 and 2010, the Red Stars played in the WPS, the NWSL's predecessor in the US. The team left the WPS in December of 2010, and for the 2011 season, they were a part of the WPSL.
Ava Cook, Sammi Fisher, and Sarah Griffith were three of the five players selected by the Red Stars in the 2022 NWSL Draft. Yuki Nagasato was reunited with the Red Stars after his stint with Louisville. Kealia Watt was also nursing an anterior cruciate ligament injury. It was revealed that Chris Petrucelli will be the new head coach.
The Red Stars were unable to advance after losing to the Kansas City Current in the 2022 NWSL Challenge Cup Central Division Final. According to an announcement made on August 15, 2023, a group of prominent Chicagoans, headed by Laura Ricketts, have reached an agreement in principle to acquire the Chicago Red Stars. The company headed by Ricketts bought the club out for $60 million on September 1, 2023.
