Celebration Bowl Information

The Celebration Bowl is an annual postseason college football bowl game that began in 2015. It is played between the winning teams from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) and the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), two of the most prominent conferences for HBCUs in NCAA Division I. The game was first played in 2015.

Essentially, it's the black college football equivalent of the national championship. It has been played in the Georgia Dome and Mercedes-Benz Stadium and is hosted annually in Atlanta on the third weekend of December. The Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) is now represented in just one bowl event.

Similarly to the MEAC/SWAC Challenge, an annual interconference match between the two leagues during Labor Day weekend, ESPN Events organizes this game. The Air Force Reserve sponsored the 2015, 2016, and 2018 Celebration Bowls.

The Cricket Celebration Bowl was officially renamed after Cricket Wireless's title sponsorship on December 9, 2020.

Since the SWAC stated in June 2017 that it will no longer host the championship game after the 2017 season, the winner of the SWAC regular season would be automatically qualified to play in the Celebration Bowl. However, the SWAC changed its tune in June 2018. Therefore, the championship game is still on, and the victor goes to the Celebration Bowl.
