The Virginia Cavaliers and the Maryland Terrapins met in the 2022 Capitol Classic Lacrosse Tournament championship game. The two teams had previously played in the 2021 NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Championship, making this a highly anticipated rematch. For the championship, Virginia prevailed over Maryland 17-16. The Capitol Classic was played between the two colleges for the first time at Audi Field in Washington, DC. The concept to showcase the best teams in lacrosse at least once a year was conceived by Virginia's Lars Tiffany and Maryland's Logan Wisnauskas.
