Cangrejeros de Santurce Information
Santurce's Cangrejeros de Santurce is a professional baseball team headquartered in Santurce, Puerto Rico's largest barrio. When it was the Liga de Béisbol Semi-Profesional de Puerto Rico, the franchise joined the Liga de Béisbol Profesional Roberto Clemente. The team has won sixteen national titles and five Caribbean Series over its 80-year history. The team has won the most games in Puerto Rican professional baseball history, with almost 2000 victories. The Panic Squad of the 1954–55 Cangrejeros was the team's most notable roster, featuring Hall of Famers Roberto Clemente and Willie Mays. This version of the Cangrejeros swept their respective series to win the National and Caribbean titles.
The Cangrejeros' most recent home games were held at Hiram Bithorn Stadium in San Juan's municipality. They shared the field with Senadores de San Juan for several years (also known temporally as the San Juan Metros). Both teams have traditionally had a sports rivalry, which led to the development of the "City Championship," a season-long series that awarded the title to the team with the most wins. The stadium was shared with the Montreal Expos during the 2003–04 season, before the Expos were relocated to Washington, D.C. The team's previous home fields were Sixto Escobar Stadium in Old San Juan and Juan Ramón Loubriel Stadium in Bayamón.
