Breeders Cup Information
The Breeders' Cup is a series of Grade I horse races annually in the US. Breeders' Cup Limited, which was established in 1982, is in charge of running the series. From its start in 1984 to 2006, the Breeders' Cup was a single-day event commencing in 2007; the series extended to two days.
The venue's capacity limits the Breeders Cup attendance. 2016 Santa Anita Park has already broken its two-day attendance record with 118,484 people. In 2007, at Monmouth Park, 69,584 people showed up for the event, which was a record low. Four Breeders' Cup trophies are awarded for each race, with the winner and their connections also receiving a floral garland to put over the withers.
In 2023, the Breeders' Cup celebrated its 40th year as North America's most prestigious Thoroughbred horse racing event. Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California, hosted 14 Grade I races. The two-day championship tournament will be broadcast live on Friday and Saturday in the US on NBC, Peacock, USA Network, and FanDuel TV.
Although a few Grade I races are held in mid-November and December, the Breeders' Cup is traditionally considered the end of the North American racing season. Many of the Eclipse Award categories have their winners decided during this event.
