Bowling Green Hot Rods Information
The Bowling Green Hot Rods are a minor league baseball club in the South Atlantic League. They are the High-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays. The team calls Bowling Green, Kentucky, home, and its games are hosted at the 2009-built Bowling Green Ballpark. The city's ties to the car and racing industries inspired the team's name.
They debuted in 2009 as members of the Class A South Atlantic League and went on to play in the Class A Midwest League from 2010 through 2020. They were founded in 2009. In 2021, they were promoted to the high-A level and assigned to the high-A East, but in 2022, they were rechristened to the South Atlantic League.
The Hot Rods were asked to stay as Tampa Bay affiliates and be upgraded to High-A in 2021 as members of the High-A East as part of Major League Baseball's minor league restructure following the 2020 season. Afterward, they prevailed against the Greensboro Grasshoppers in a best-of-five series, 3-2, to claim the High-A East title. The award for the best manager in the league went to Jeff Smith.
