The Boston College Eagles are the official American football team. The Eagles are an ACC Atlantic Division team that competes in the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, is home to the Eagles. The team's home games are held at Alumni Stadium on the university campus.
Boston College, founded in 1892, has won four Eastern titles and one Big East championship (in 2004). However, the NCAA does not recognize BC's 1940 national title. The team has won over 650 games and is 14-13 in bowl games, including the Sugar Bowl in 1941 and the Cotton Bowl in 1985.
Boston College football teams are frequently ranked among the top in the country for academic success and graduation rates. This is in addition to their success on the field. The football team had the greatest academic progress rate of any school that concluded the season ranked in either the Associated Press or the ESPN/USA Today Coaches' rankings in 2005, 2006, and 2007.
