The Big Ten Baseball event is the championship event for the Big Ten Conference in baseball at the NCAA Division I level. The tournament champion earns an automatic berth for his conference's baseball team in the NCAA Division I Championships.
In 1981, the first Big Ten Baseball Championship was played. From 1981 to 1999, the competition featured a double-elimination format with a maximum of four teams. The event changed to a double-elimination format with six teams in 2000. In 2014, the competition expanded to include eight teams and a double-elimination format.
From 1981 through 1987, the Big Ten Conference had an "East" and "West" division. After the regular season, the tournament included the top two teams from each division. After doing away with divisions in 1988, only the conference's top four teams entered the postseason tournament until 2000, when the field was enlarged to six. In 2014, an additional team was added for eight.
