The Belmont Stakes became famous in 1867 as one of the oldest and most important horse races in the United States. It is the third and final race in the Triple Crown series, following the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes. The race takes place every June in Elmont, New York, just outside of New York City. In 2025, the Belmont Stakes was held on June 7 at Saratoga Race Course instead of its usual home at Belmont Park, due to construction at the original venue. The race celebrated its 156th running this year. It featured a strong field of top three-year-old horses, with Fierceness and Sierra Leone among the major contenders. The event included a full weekend of racing and entertainment, drawing large crowds and continuing the legacy of one of America’s most historic sporting events.
