Bellator MMA Information
Bellator MMA is an MMA organization headquartered in Santa Monica, California. One of the planet's biggest mixed martial arts promotions is a Viacom subsidiary. In Latin, the word Bellator signifies a fighter.
Bjorn Rebney started it in 2008. While he was in charge, Bellator MMA hosted "The Toughest Tournament in Sports." It is a single-elimination competition where the winner is determined by advancing to the next round. The prize for the victor was a check for $100,000.
After Rebney's departure, Bellator MMA's Scott Coker took over as president, and the organization abandoned tournaments in favor of many one-on-one bouts. After Bjorn Rebney sold a controlling share to Viacom in December 2011, all Bellator events began showing on Spike beginning in January 2013.
Preliminary bouts continued to be streamed on YouTube and CBSSports.com, and as of October 1, 2020, Bellator shows were broadcast on CBS Sports Network.
On February 9, 2021, it was announced that beginning with Bellator 255 on April 2, 2021, all Bellator events will be broadcast exclusively on Showtime. The next day, it was revealed that Bellator events would also be available on BBC iPlayer in the UK.
After years of airing on ESPN, Bellator announced on February 1, 2023, that they had secured a two-year arrangement with Globo to air Bellator events in Brazil. A few weeks later, the promotion announced an extension with the BBC that would span several years.
