In 1891, a group of enthusiastic and hardworking women organized the first Battle of Flowers Parade, the precursor to today's yearly Fiesta celebration in San Antonio. The Alamo, Goliad, and San Jacinto heroes were originally honored at what is now one of the oldest and biggest parades in the United States. As an essential part of the citywide celebration, the Battle of Flowers® Parade is still presented today by the only all-women, all-volunteer organization creating events of its kind, The Battle of the Flowers® Association.
The Battle of Flowers Association is a public, non-profit group whose mission is to preserve the heritage of Texas and San Antonio while educating the public about the state's past. There are approximately 400 active members and a large number of honorary members who actively contribute back to the city and community.
