Auto Club NHRA Finals Information
The NHRA Auto Club Finals has been the last event of the NHRA Drag Racing Series since 1984, and it is held at Auto Club Raceway in Pomona, California. In 1961, the Raceway was opened with a quarter-mile drag strip.
The NHRA Winternationals, the first event of each season, have also taken place there since it was opened.
Tulsa, Oklahoma, was the first site of the NHRA Finals. To be admitted to the event, racers had to accumulate points at divisional and regional events during the season. On the first day of the competition, Maynard Rupp emerged victorious by claiming the title of Top Fuel champion. The event did not include any Pro Stock or Funny Car participants.
After competing in the Funny Car category for the first time in the NHRA Auto Club Finals event in 1967, "Dyno Don" Nicholson emerged victorious. After it relocated to Dallas, Texas, in 1969, the Dallas International Speedway became the event's site. Although Steve Carbone was declared world champion as the overall points leader, L. Goldstein was awarded Top Fuel.
