Arizona Bowl Information
The Arizona Bowl is an NCAA-accredited postseason college football bowl game that first took place in 2015. The game is played in Arizona Stadium in Tucson, and it will have Mountain West and Mid-American Conference tie-ins starting in 2020. (MAC). The Bowl changed to the Nova Home Loans Arizona Bowl on October 1, 2015.
The debut game was set to take place on December 29, 2015, thanks to a cooperative endeavor between the Arizona Sports and Entertainment Commission (ASEC), Alan Young, Kemp Ellis, Nikki Balich, the Mountain West Conference, and Campus Insiders. If neither league had a bowl-eligible team to play in the Arizona Bowl, the Sun Belt Conference would provide a backup tie-in.
In the first game, the Nevada Wolf Pack took against the Colorado State Rams. Because neither League USA nor the Sun Belt could send enough bowl-eligible teams, the game was played between two Mountain West teams. This marked the first time a non-championship bowl game was played between teams from the same conference since the 1979 Orange Bowl.
Barstool Sports was revealed as the game's title sponsor beginning in 2021 on July 27, 2021. The Pima County Board of Supervisors voted on August 10 to withhold roughly $40,000 in funding for the game, citing concerns over "inflammatory statements" made by its founder David Portnoy in the past.
