In 2022, the Angel City Football Club debuted as a National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) member. On July 21, 2020, the news broke that the team would be forming out of Los Angeles, California. Abby Wambach, America Ferrera, Mia Hamm, Sophia Bush, Natalie Portman, and Eva Longoria are among the famous people who own shares in the squad.
At BMO Stadium, which Angel City FC and Los Angeles FC both call home, the two teams compete in Major League Soccer. Although they were eliminated from the playoffs by OL Reign on October 20, 2023, Angel City FC made history in 2023. According to reports, the four main owners of the club decided to have investment company Moelis & Co. find a new owner and investor to take over the board of Angel City for a stated price of $180 million before the 2024 season.
Bob Iger, CEO of The Walt Disney Company, and Willow Bay, his wife, were reportedly close to buying the Angel City FC franchise in July 2024 for more than $250 million to become the team's primary owner.
