Altoona Curve Information
The Altoona Curve is a Minor League Baseball club headquartered in Altoona, Pennsylvania. It is named after the nearby Horseshoe Curve (but also referring to the curveball, a pitch). As the Pittsburgh Pirates' Double-A affiliate, the club competes in the Eastern League. The Curve plays at Altoona's Peoples Natural Gas Field, which opened in 1999 and has seating for 7,210.
The Altoona Curve club came into being when Tampa Bay and Arizona were each given Major League Baseball teams for the 1998 season. A domino effect spread over baseball as a whole, with the advent of these two clubs leading to growth in both the major and minor leagues.
In 2016, Tyler Eppler, Edwin Espinal, Jared Lakind, and Harold Ramírez were selected as Curve players to participate in the Eastern League All-Star Game. The 2020 season saw the Curve reorganized into Double-A Northeast as part of MLB's reorganization of Minor League Baseball. After the regional circuit changed its name in 2021, the Double-A Northeast continued using it in 2022.
