Alcorn State Braves Football Information
The collegiate football squad for Alcorn State University is known as the Braves. The Southwestern Athletic Conference's Division I Football Championship Subdivision team, the Braves, competes in this division (SWAC). Various categories have been used for the game, including NAIA from 1964 to 1969, NAIA Division I from 1970 to 1983, NCAA College Division from 1965 to 1972, NCAA Division II from 1973 to 1976, NCAA Division I from 1977, and NCAA Division I-AA/FCS from 1978 to the present.
The Jackson State Tigers and Alcorn State Braves will square off in the Soul Bowl. The Capital City Classic was the previous name of the competition; however, Alcorn terminated the Classic in 2012 so that Lorman could host it. Steve McNair and Marino Casem are the College Football Hall of Fame members. Throughout its history, Alcorn State has had 21 head football coaches. Fred McNair is currently in charge of the initiative.
