The Air Force Falcons football team competes in the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision (previously Division I-A) as the official representative of the US Air Force Academy. Since its formation in 1999, the Air Force has been a part of the Mountain West Conference. Falcon Stadium in Colorado Springs is where the Falcons play their home games. The club has been led by Troy Calhoun since 2007.
The Commander-in-Chief's Trophy is a football trophy played annually by the Air Force Academy, the Army Academy, and the Navy Academy to determine which of the three major service schools is the best.
The 1985 football season was the best in Air Force history. The Falcons, led by Fisher DeBerry, their fifth-year coach, came within one game of competing for the national championship. After starting the season with ten consecutive victories and rising to the No. 2 spot in the rankings, they suffered a devastating loss to BYU (28-21) in their last regular season game.
