Zion I Information
Zion I is an Oakland, California-based hip-hop project created by MC and producer Baba Zumbi. K-Genius and Amp Live were also involved with the project. Zion I began as a band and released their first studio album, Mind over Matter, in 2000. The Source nominated it for "Independent Album of the Year." In 2003, Deep Water Slang V2.0 was launched. True & Livin' was released by Zion I in 2005. Gift of Gab, Talib Kweli, and Aesop Rock made cameo appearances. The Grouch's first collaboration album, Heroes in the City of Dope, was released in 2006. The Takeover was released by Zion I in 2009.
Atomic Clock was released by Zion I in 2010. The Grouch's second joint studio album, Heroes in the Healing of the Nation, was released in 2011. Shadowboxing, Zion I's 2012 album, was named one of the "10 Best Bay Area Hip-Hop Records of 2012" by SF Weekly. Amp Live left the band in 2015, and Zion I became Baba Zumbi's solo project. The Labyrinth, Zion I's first studio album without Amp Live, was released in 2016.
