Yvette Flunder Information
Yvette A. Flunder (July 29, 1955) is an American senior pastor and singer. He was born in San Francisco, California, and raised in the Church of God in Christ. Flunder began singing and recording with the Love Center Choir and Walter Hawkins. She was there as a lead singer. Flunder was moved to begin working for the people with HIV/AIDS in 1986, which was a response to the epidemic of the 1980s. In the San Francisco Bay Area, Flunder also founded a few not-for-profit enterprises such as Restoration House, Hazard Ashley House, and Walker House through the Ark of Refuge, Inc. Later, all these became the Y. A. Flunder Foundation.
Flunder has also earned a Certificate of Ministry Studies and a Master of Arts from the Pacific School of Religion in 1997. In 2001, she received the Doctor of Ministry degree from the San Francisco Theological Seminary in 2001. She had founded the City of Refuge in 1991 under the United Church of Christ, where she was raised in her childhood. The City of Refuge was an effort to create a spiritual community, according to Flunder.
Phylicia Rashad has portrayed Flunder for the final 3-part episode of the mini-series of Dustin Lance Black named “When We Rise” on March 3, 2017. It was aired on the major television network “ABC.” Joni Bovill also featured her in the drama film by Joshua Marston titled “Come Sunday.” It was also released on Netflix in April 2018.
